OUR SCHOOL

The Sint-Theresiacollege is a school for general education. After graduation students are prepared to go to higher education.

The school is situated in a rural area. The vision of the founders was to provide local youth with secondary education to that they wouldn't have to travel to the cities. This appeared to be a success: the school teaches general education to over 1,100 students.

The school is known in the area for having a good portfolio of activities like exchanges, mini enterprises, school trips and participation to all kinds of competitions - mostly with good results obtained by the participating students.

OUR SCHOOL IN ACTION

Entrepreneurship is considered as an asset for the students. It's never about making as much profit as possible but it's about taking responsibility, developing initiative skills and cooperating with peers. Each student can choose a project per two hours a week. One of the projects is the mini enterprise programme. Within this project, students are responsible of the administration, accountancy, communication, marketing and finance of their own enterprise. The activities students develop are being evaluated by teachers from different areas. This makes it possible to evaluate not only financial results of the companies, but also the learning process of the students

'Being part of a mini enterprise was a lot more work than I expected. But it’s also a lot more fun and interesting than I expected’ - said a student participating in the ICEE project.

The school collaborates also with many professional organisations and associations, reducing the gap between the education system and labor market. Every year the teachers and students also participate in different international projects in Comenius and Erasmus+ programs. With the support of European Social Fund the school also has professional programmes for NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) youth to include them into the labor market.

“Not everyone will be entrepreneurs, but those who run a student company gain a valuable experience to add to their resume, and in this way they will become better competitors in the labour market" - said Agris Ruperts, director of Liepaja State Technical School.

OUR SCHOOL INTO ACTION

We offer one course in entrepreneurship. During the course, students set up mini-companies and take care of them. In addition, they visit real companies and entrepreneurs visit the school. The ICEE project has brought new ideas to our entrepreneurship course. For example, last November we organised a Mini Fair for all of our students and teachers, during which the companies introduced themselves and shared their business ideas. Two guest entrepreneurs told the students of their own entrepreneurial stories. Some companies also sold their products. In December, we organised Christmas sales where the mini-companies sold their products for students and teachers. Next April we will participate in the International Student Company Festival in Latvia for the first time. Hopefully, we will also organise the first business camp in 2017.

Last year a few of our teachers participated in the Helsinki entrepreneurship education path project. This project contributed to our entrepreneurship education and enforced the students’ working life skills. Last November all teachers were involved in entrepreneurship education workshops that gave us a lot of information about entrepreneurship. Some teachers will also participate in the OPE TET event, during which where they will have a chance to visit real companies.

Last January about a 100 students took part in an event called “Now” held in the Itäkeskus shopping center. They were given information on how to apply for a job, and they also visited the companies located in the shopping mall. The second-year students participated in a Career Day and blogged about their experiences.

“The ICEE project has been like winning the lottery. We are extremely grateful to be involved in this project. We have received new ideas, which have strengthened the entrepreneurship education in our school. The financial resources of the project will make it possible to bravely make new experiments and travel abroad.  The goal is that all our students will have a chance to be trained in entrepreneurship and learn how to develop an entrepreneurial attitude towards everything they do” - said Päivi Siltala-Keinänen, Deputy Principal, Teacher and Project Leader of ICEE at Helsinki Upper Secondary School of Languages.

“Pacinotti-Archimede” High School is situated in the area called “Nuovo Salario” in Rome, Italy. It was born out of a union between two historical schools of the neighbourhood: ITIS Pacinotti and Archimede High School. Curricula avaiable are:

  1. ITIS (specialization in Electrotechnics, Electronics and IT).
  2. Applied Science High School
  3. Applied Sports Science High School
  4. Scientific High School

The number of students is around 1600.

OUR SCHOOL INTO ACTION

The school vision is to lead students towards entrepreneurship, to discover their unique talent and opportunities in a constantly changing world. The talent is a special skill that allows a person or a group of people to do something well. The talent emerges from natural skills and/or from the involvement in areas of interest or passion. It is not simply a natural “gift”. In conclusion, the school vision is to promote a new mentality: “the job has not to be found, it has to be created!”

The school has been collaborating by several years with different partner companies in order to develop students’ entrepreneurial mentality:

  • Junior Achievement Italy (project: “Company Programme” – from 2013/14 onwards)
  • Fondazione Mondo Digitale, INAIL, CNA, companies and artisans from Lazio (project: “The Italian makers” – from 2013/14 onwards)
  • Regione Lazio (project: “BIC Lazio: “entrepreneurs among school desks” – 2013/14 and 2015/16)
  • IGS (project: ”Students Lab” – 2014/15)

In order to further support students’ growth from the entrepreneurial point of view, the school has established different partnerships to allow students to develop skills in the job market with various local and national companies: Rosiglioni Impianti (electromedical equipment), Click (Monterotondo – electric system design), ITI (energy systems planning), TERIS (photovoltaic systems), TELECOM (telecommunication systems), ACEA Distribuzione (generating systems, energy distribution and transport), etc.

The quotation at the entrance of our “Innovation Gym”, which summarizes the school vision, is the following: “Everyone knows that something is impossible to create, until somebody who is unaware of that comes along and invents it” - A. Einstein.
